One of the key strengths of our strategy is our emphasis on alliances with various stakeholders. These strategic alliances will help Kijani Energy realize its triple bottom-line vision.

We intend to form strategic relationships with associations of smallholder farmers, providing them access to the market and substantially insulating them from market risks. We will also assist the farmers with use of best practices in farming and agricultural techniques, as well as access to the carbon credit trading market. Crucially, this will also provide us with locally relevant experiences in growing Jatropha. In this regard, we have--through our Mozambique subsidiary--entered into protocols with smallholder farmer in the province of Manica, in Mozambique. We are also in the process of identifying and negotiating with additional farmers' associations across the country. |
We will work with the governments to promote Jatropha and biodiesel, ensure sustainability of smallholder farms and implement social improvement programs. We will also collaborate with the governments at all levels to establish industry standards and regulations and to promote an informed public debate on sustainable choices for biofuels. |

Universities and Research Centers |
We intend to sign research agreements and memoranda of understanding with various universities and research centres. For local researchers, this will provide a pathway to connect with international research networks and to make a key contribution towards the development of a profitable and sustainable industry in Mozambique.
In May 2008, our Mozambican subsidiary, Odeveza S.A., signed a research protocol with the Instituto Agrario de Chimoio (IAC), and in mid-August 2008, we organized an initial industry seminar, in co-operation with the Universidade Católica de Moçambique. We are currently in the process of negotiating a research protocol with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research of South Africa as we strive to establish a research program and network. |
Non-governmental Organizations |
We will work with NGOs on the launch of a "Public Social Private Partnership” (PSPP) aimed at establishing a program of social and economic development benefitting the communities in the immediate area of our projects. In addition to the social sectors, this program will focus on extending access to financial services and encouraging entrepreneurship. |
Kijani Energy intends to collaborate extensively with customers to share best practices and R&D with respect to the cultivation and plantation of Jatropha. We believe that such collaborations are critical in adding value throughout the supply chain, resulting in a win-win result for all stakeholders. |
