Contributing to the economic and social vitality of the communities in which we operate is a key component of Kijani Energy's triple-bottom-line approach to business. Fundação Kijani will work with local communities, government and social action groups to ensure that our contributions are in line with the social interest and to launch a broad-based Public Social Private Partnership (PSPP). As this collaborative initiative takes shape, we have identified three principal goals and some key actions.
Strenghtening Economic SecurityKijani Energy and Fundação Kijani are committed to: Creating stable, year-long employment for local employees Improving local access roads – contributing to increased mobility of the local community Collaborating with local smallholder farmers through the purchase of their seeds at market prices and the provision of technical assistance (in co-operation with the extension services of the Ministry of Agriculture)
Enhancing Community WelfareKijani Energy and Fundação Kijani are committed to: Establishing a first-aid clinic with a fulltime nurse (for the benefit of both company workers and the rural communities in the immediate area) Providing funding and equipment for local primary schools, as part of the social fund to be instituted by Fundação Kijani and co-managed with the local communities
Encouraging EntrepreneurshipKijani Energy and Fundação Kijani will work with specific social action groups and with the local governments to: Assist in the extension of access to financial services Encourage smallholder investment in Jatropha Create linkages to the international market for smallholders Jatropha farmers
