Cultivation Operations
We are in the process of bringing online approximately 40,000 ha of land concessions in the central Mozambican provinces of Manica and Gaza. We expect to have over 75,000 ha of land available to us for cultivation operations in Mozambique by late 2009 to early 2010. The cultivation operations will be highly labour intensive, creating over 4,000 jobs in the country. With our commitment to paying higher than typical wages, the job creation will result in tremendous economic growth and development for the communities impacted by our operations.

In late-2008, we initiated trial plots in conjunction with the Insituto Agrário de Chimoio. We are currently testing provenances from different areas of Mozambique and southern Africa.

We expect to plant 1,500 ha by end-2009, eventually picking up speed to about 8,000 to 10,000 ha annually between three land sites. The cultivation operations are expected to start producing revenues by mid-2010. Given the suitable microclimate and the use of high yielding seeds, we expect that the plants will reach maturity within three to five years, producing over 5 kg per tree annually.
