Once the Jatropha seed is crushed to extract oil, the remaining seed cake - approximately 55% to 65% of the total seed mass - can be expensive and onerous to dispose. However, this seed cake still has a lot of energy content left and is ideal for production of biogas and electricity. A 100 ton/day biofuel operation can create upwards of 350 to 400 ton/day of seed cake where 1 kg of seed cake as heat values of over 350KiloCalories. When compared with other organize course, oil seed cake from Jatropha provides essential nutrients at comparable levels. A co-generation plant running on Jatropha seed cake would generate enough electricity to power our own operations and the villages and communities living in nearby areas that currently have no access to electricity. We expect to construct our first co-generation plant in Mozambique, in Gôndola, by 2012.
