Processing and Refinery Operations |
We are committed to bringing the whole value chain to Mozambique as an integral part of our triple bottom-line approach to doing business. As Mozambique and its neighbouring countries develop, we see a growing demand for fuel that would make energy security and self-sufficiency critical for their economic development. While Europe is a lucrative market in the short-run - the low hanging fruit - we believe that Africa will develop into an even more important market in the near future. With that in mind, our vision is to bring the complete value chain to Mozambique. This, of course, requires development of local infrastructure and government policy framework that encourages investments into high value processing operations. We are currently actively evaluating processing plants to produce crude Jatropha oil locally. We expect a 100 ton/day seed processing plant to be in operation by early 2010 at our site in Gôndola, Manica. Additional processing plants will be added at other sites as production there is ramped up. Once the first seed processing plant is in operation, we will conduct a feasibility study to evaluate prospects for a biodiesel refinery in Mozambique, which we expect to locate in or near the port city of Beira.
