Some of the other countries around the world where we see ourselves expanding to within the next two to three years are briefly discussed below. All of these are important parts of our global strategy to be a major player in the biofuel marketplace.

South Africa

Though not suitable for the cultivation of Jatropha, South Africa has a vested interest in Mozambique and its energy production. As the most industrialized nation in the region, South Africa is hardest hit by energy shortages and is forced to be an energy importer--even importing electricity from a much smaller and poorer Mozambique. For that reason, South African universities and institutions have taken a keen interest in Jatropha related research, something we are in the process of tapping into. As the first part of our South African business strategy, we are developing a comprehensive research program with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. As our operations in Mozambique start, we expect to expand on that relationship and start many new ones.

Zimbabwe

Though known more for its economic and political turmoil nowadays, Zimbabwe was the first African country to conduct organized research into the cultivation of Jatropha. The country now has a long tradition and a deep understanding of Jatropha and has Zimbabwean experts have been instrumental in kick-starting the commercialization of Jatropha in Mozambique. We have developed a network of contacts in Zimbabwe that give us access to trainers, high yielding seeds and a large body of research into Jatropha.

Tanzania

The country's government has picked Jatropha as an important part of their energy and poverty alleviation strategy and because it is an English-speaking country, Tanzania has been the preferred destination of millions of dollars of foreign investment into Jatropha. We have developed a network of contacts with many of the producers in Tanzania to allow us to collaborate, share best practices and contribute to the development of Jatropha as the preferred biofuel crop of the future.

Turkey

Turkey has turned to Jatropha for reasons different than many of the African countries - it hopes to use the crop to stop the desertification of vast areas within the country. Though the yields in Turkey are expected to be lower than in southern Africa, we believe that with additional research and proper care, the plant can be profitably grown in Turkey. We have recently completed a feasibility study for the cultivation of Jatropha in Turkey and expect to start operations there by 2010.

With its geographical location - at the door steps of Europe - and plenty of available land, we believe that Turkey will play an important role in the coming years as a supplier of energy to Eastern Europe and the non-oil producing countries in the Middle East and central Asia.

India

Though Jatropha is not indigenous to India, it has a long history in the country. The Indian government was the first in the world to make Jatropha a central part of their energy security strategy and government has given many incentives to farmers all over the country to grow Jatropha. Large tracts of land have been set aside for the production of the crop and the government has invested heavily in Jatropha. More importantly, over 85% of Indian Jatropha operations are actively involved in research related to Jatropha, compared to about 30% in Africa. This has resulted in the development of a vast research network in the country and has ushered in many recent genetic and process improvements in the cultivation of the crop. We are currently in communication with a number of research institutions in India to adapt the valuable research going on in the country for the southern African climate.
