Downstream Uses

Around North America and around the world, biodiesel is used in a variety of industries. Produced from biomass, the fuel can be used as a complete substitute of or an additive to fossil fuel. Most vehicle manufacturers certify the use of biodiesel, with many models already certified for B100. The most recent research shows that biodiesel is not a safe substitute for diesel, it might in fact be better for the engine. Given the market experience in other countries, we believe that it is highly probable that a profitable downstream network can be organized by Kijani Energy in southern Africa by marketing locally produced, Jatropha-based biodiesel to equipment (and fuel) intensive projects. This network would include:

  • mining operations
  • oil exploration companies
  • forestry operations
  • large agricultural projects
  • railways
  • freight operators
  • postal services
